There’s a place deep in the heart of Texas. Not that deep. Denton Texas is located within the Dallas/Fort Worth area and hours from the border of Texas. But it’s what’s within Denton’s boundaries that is interesting.
Inside Denton lies a store called The Plot Twist. The Plot Twist is an independent romance bookstore with, well, a twist. It’s also a bar.

That’s right. Looking for a place to buy not only your new favorite gay hockey romance but also a vodka tonic, here you go!
Closed on Mondays, this mother-daughter owned bookstore carries everything romance. From contemporary to Christian, Dark Romance to LGBTQ, and Spanish written books (this is Texas) if you’re looking for a classic or the newest and hottest in alien romances, you’ll find it all here.
They have a bookish expert page, where members of their store will guide you towards their favorite books and what they’re reading now.

The Plot Twist hosts several events. Author signings, cozy reading hours, crafting classes, and the ever popular book clubs. Anything you could think of. Speaking of in-house book clubs, The Plot Twist doesn’t just have one, oh no. Like it’s name, these owners know that romance has layers. And so does the book clubs. There are five separate book clubs that are listed on the store’s website and, I’m sure, many unofficial ones happening in the bar on any given day (except Mondays).
As an independent bookstore, The Plot Twist also helps independent authors. They have an author submission page where traditional and indie published authors can apply to have their books carried in the store. Which is a great idea for small press and indie romance authors who are starting up and perhaps just need that one little boost to get out there.
The Plot Twist has its own merch line from pajamas to hats. They also link up with both libro.fm and bookshop.org. Using their links makes sure the proceeds from books ordered from each of these websites goes back to The Plot Twist.

We need more independent romance bookstores like this. Where readers can get together to read and have a glass of wine. Sadly, I am too far away from Denton, but if I ever end up in the area, you can bet I’ll be visiting this fun independent bookstore.
If you’re in the area and love romances, consider stopping by and checking out the store. Buy your new favorite romance, have a drink. If you live somewhere else in the US or beyond, consider checking out the website. Click around, spend some time looking at everything. Raise their notice on Google. Buy something from Bookshop.org or Libro.fm using their link and supporting them that way.
Buy a hat.

The Plot Twist’s tagline is Came for the plot, stayed for the twist.
Who doesn’t want a hat or tote with that quote on it?
Support them and all our other independent bookstores.
As always, any books reviewed this month will be linked through their website or Bookshop.org using their link.
Winter has finally arrived. The cold weather and biting temperature drops are commonplace now. So is the snow in some areas. I’ve been watching the adventures of Josh & Jase, two British men who needed to see the Great Lakes for themselves as they do the tour of Michigan. It’s been amusing watching these two freak out at their first look at Lake Michigan. It’s been interesting to watch…in my nice warm house.
Stay warm friends. Stock up on your favorite hot beverage, grab your favorite warm throw and curl up with a good book.
