Ranching is the same everywhere.

I usually don’t review these types of romance novels.  The boy meets a girl in an out of the way place, they fall in love, there’s an issue, then they get together and there’s a HEA.
There are so many other review blogs, some that I follow, who do this so much better than I could. They know all the spicy parts and the good series and what new authors to look for.
But I couldn’t pass this one up.

Cowboy in a Kilt by Kait Nolan is a romance that isn’t typical at all.  Raleigh Beaumont is a Texas rancher whose ranch and home was stolen from him when his father died.  The place that was his mother’s legacy has been given to his stepmother who planned to sell it to the highest developer.  While in Vegas to drown his sorrows, he meets a stranger who asked him to a game of poker.  Where he wins an entire estate in the highlands of Scotland.  Once there, he meets Kyla McKean, an heiress whose family owns a castle that’s been in her family for generations.  However, to keep it, someone in her family must marry the heir to the other estate.  The one that Beaumont recently became the heir of.

Marriages of conveniences aren’t done anymore.  And Kyla has a boyfriend.  In Edinburgh. But to keep the castle and his newly acquired estate, they have to marry for at least a year.  So Raleigh and Kyla agree to a year of fake marriage to save their lands.
Of course, nothing ever goes right.  Between Raleigh’s best friend Zeke and Charlotte, his second mom, they bring a hint of the Americas to Scotland. Watching Raleigh stumble his way through the highlands and their way of estate managing.  From Raleigh’s new estate manager Malcolm, discovering that he has tenants and each of them bring a piece of his new estates heart and soul with them.  Finding out that Texas ranching and Scotland ranching aren’t that different. And of course, dealing with Kyla and her family.

I also loved the way Kyla went from carefree daughter with plans of her own. As much as she loves her home, she knows how much its costing to keep it up.  But when the heiress her brother was to marry ups and loses her estate to a Texas rancher, suddenly she’s the one on the line to marry.  It’s a huge change for her and one she has to figure out. I appreciate how Nolan didn’t make the boyfriend a complete ass.  He wasn’t a fit for Kyla and it’s evident, but he doesn’t do anything wrong.  In fact, he’s a bit sympathetic at the end.
There are the usual allies to lovers trope as Raleigh and Kyla learn to adjust to each other and eventually fall in love.  It was a sweet story and I’m glad I picked it in the Kindle book rush.  This story was a wonderful, sweet romance.  Popcorn for the brain. The perfect book to warm up a winter’s day.
Okay, I might be biased on this because I do love Scotland, but it was still a good book. and speaking of cold, hope everyone is staying warm. Make sure you have your salt and snow shovels. Get your blankets and warm drinks and spend your weekends comfy at home and curl up with a good book.
